How do stretch hood machines work?
A stretch hood machine cuts a stretch hood from tubular film (on a roll) and then pulls it over the pallet with four arms. The film is stretched and completely encloses the pallet and its load. After the hood is applied, the film contracts, tightly and stably packaging the load.
Advantages of Stretch Hood Machines
- Optimal Protection: The stretch hood provides a water, dust, and sometimes even UV-proof packaging. This protects the load from weather influences, dirt, and damage, which is essential for outdoor storage.
- High Stability and Transport Security: Due to the tight and even enclosure, the load remains firmly on the pallet, preventing shifting or tipping during transport. This is especially important for unstable or heavy loads.
- Low Film Consumption: Stretch hood machines are highly efficient in their film usage. They use precisely the necessary amount of film and stretch it optimally, which can lead to significant savings on packaging material (sometimes as much as 50% less than with traditional wrapping). One roll of film can pack 1500-2000 pallets.
- High Capacity: Stretch hood machines are suitable for both average and very high production volumes, up to 200 pallets per hour. They are ideal for fast packaging lines.
- Good Visibility and Printability: The film is smooth and transparent, ensuring that products and any barcodes remain easily readable. It’s also possible to use colored film or film with a company logo.
- No Load Deformation: Unlike shrink film, which uses heat, a stretch hood does not cause load deformation.
- Theft Prevention: The tight and seamless packaging makes it more difficult to remove products from the pallet unnoticed.
- Fewer Roll Changes: Due to efficient film usage, film rolls need to be changed less frequently, which increases operational efficiency.
- Ergonomics and Safety: Operating and maintaining the machine often happens at floor level, which improves ergonomics and safety for operators. Additionally, no gas installation is required, which lowers energy consumption.
